Enhancing Industry-Academia Collaboration to Achieve Super Cities by Verifying Social Implementation of Zero-Emission Intelligence

Tokyo, June 20, 2022 – AI inside Inc., a provider of  an AI platform with the mission of “to bring AI to every being in the world and contribute to a richer future society,” announces the partnership with Tohoku University on cultivating human resources in the field of AI/data science, verifying the social implementation of intelligence, and creating a sustainable future by business creation.

This partnership agreement will allow both parties to utilize their human and intellectual resources, and strengthen collaboration towards Tohoku University’s goal of achieving a sustainable future society that is resilient to unpredictable risks such as natural disasters and infectious diseases, as well as AI inside’s goal of attaining Smart X to bring AI to every being in the world and contribute to a richer future society.

Key Points of the Agreement

AI inside and Tohoku University will strengthen their collaboration in matters related to verifying social implementation of the Intelligence, creation of new businesses using data, cultivation of AI/data science human resources with the necessary work and expertise to create a sustainable future, and local startups.

Verifying social implementation of the Intelligence in multiple R&D fields (robotics, lunar surface, space industry, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, energy, medical, etc.) at the Fukushima International Research and Education Organization, where researchers and technologies from Japan and abroad are gathered, and in R&D fields related to the Tohoku University F Science Park concept, which is being studied in the Hamadori region of Fukushima Prefecture, and creation of new businesses using data.

Contributing to the cultivation of AI/data science human resources to work in places utilizing next-generation technologies, such as Fukushima Prefecture, in the fields such as robotics, next-generation mobility, and smart farming, as well as the “super city” concept promoted by Sendai City and Tohoku University.

Background to the Agreement

AI inside has provided the core technologies, knowledge, and experience it has accumulated in the past to all kinds of corporations and other groups to achieve its concept of “Smart X” that looks ahead to a sustainable future society. Furthermore, as a university that ranks among the top in the world, Tohoku University utilizes its knowledge in a myriad of fields to solve challenges on a day-to-day basis.

However, Japan is facing a multitude of social problems. In addition to the aging population, there are issues such as declining labor population (labor shortages), depopulation (cities at risk of extinction), a population concentrated in urban centers, global warming (extreme weather), natural disasters, infrastructure degradation, environment pollution, and infectious disease. Fukushima prefecture, located in the Tohoku (northeast) area also faces other challenges, such as nuclear disaster and reputation damage.

AI inside and Tohoku University firmly believes that these world social challenges can be solved by mutually leveraging the strengths of both parties. With this partnership, we can strive to solve regional challenges and achieve constructive recovery in Fukushima and other areas.

AI inside has contributed to AI/data science education at Tohoku University for four years, since 2019.

• 2019: Started providing “business data science” at the Faculty of Economics (to cultivate more than 300 AI human resources)
• 2020: Started providing basic and advanced content via a “mathematical/data science/AI education program”
• 2020: Started investigating the utilization of AI in the selection of businesses for the Tohoku University Business Incubation Program
• 2021: Started providing the automatic machine learning platform (AMATERAS RAY)
