Major Update to “DX Suite,” Now Featuring Generative AI

Promoting Business Efficiency Worth Approximately Two Trillion Yen Through Functional Enhancements, Including Technological Enhancements That Would Redefine the AI-OCR Market

Background

The new era of AI is upon us, and the convergence of LLM (Large Language Model) and chat interfaces has made it easy for anyone to leverage innovative technology and create new value. Requesting AI to perform tasks in natural languages, as if speaking to another person, is becoming the norm, and business use is accelerating. Highlights on the functional enhancement

AI inside has done a significant update implementing generative AI to “DX Suite,” consolidating the results of our efforts to date.

With the innovative enhancement of the AI-OCR function, “DX Suite” can now OCR documents in various structured or semi-structured formats without any AI training necessary. This leads to AI inside redefining the AI-OCR market as a leader that has pioneered the market. The AI-OCR market will fully embrace semi-structured documents, for which digitization has been delayed due to technical difficulties, and will accelerate the digitization of the vast volume of documents still left as analog data.

We will also add functionalities supporting the automation of data processing following AI-OCR and expanding the types of data that can be handled to include non-document data. AI inside promotes the digitization of operations in various industries and business sectors, including the “non-IT BPO” market (*3), which has grown to 1,919.19 billion yen in fiscal 2022.

AI inside will continue making ongoing updates to realize the original service concept of the company’s foundation. The following enhancements have been made in this first round of updates:

1. Reading of various documents without AI training necessary
In conventional AI-OCR functionalities, it was necessary to collect a vast amount of documents, spend a long time learning, and develop a new AI model to read semi-structured documents. And when using the AI model, it was also required to set the items to be extracted. Now, with the innovative enhancement of the AI-OCR functionalities that we have made, all of these workflows are no longer necessary. Even the documents that were previously unreadable to the customers can be instantly converted into assets that can be utilized as data.

2. Automation of the data processing before and after AI-OCR
“DX Suite” is now available for automating data entry via AI-OCR and the operations after the digitization. In the latest update, we have implemented a new feature in which AI automatically transcribes the scanned document data into an Excel file. AI analyzes the file and accurately transcribes the data to the specified fields, even when the file is in an original, non-standardized table format.

We plan to add various new features using generative AI, such as summarizing digitized document data and detecting whether or not customer complaints are included in the digitized text, in addition to the file transcription feature mentioned above. We are also designing the product to support frequently used Microsoft Office and audio files and the digitizing after AI-OCR to expand the range of data to be handled. This new group of features that utilize generative AI will be called “Extensions,” and we will further improve the application of “DX Suite.”

3. Improved usability with the new architecture
The new architecture enables us to quickly and flexibly add and offer new features demanded by users and has resulted in a 60% improvement in processing speed compared to the previous version, according to our research. We have also refined our highly regarded user interface to make it even easier to use, resulting in even more superb usability.

4. Dedicated AI-OCR environment for users
We can now instantly provide a scalable, user-specific cloud environment that optimizes the AI-OCR operation to the customer’s usage, such as the number of documents to be scanned and the required processing speed. It can also lead to cost reductions for users who are looking to read a large number of documents.

Manual data entry of non-structured documents is still standard in various industries and business sectors. Examples include invoices and estimates, mortgage applications and financial statements in the banking industry, insurance claims and medical certificates in the insurance industry, and documents recording residents’ opinions obtained through public hearings and surveys in local governments.
